The History Of The Oral Surgeon
The history of dentistry has very strong roots in the US, with Dr. John M. Harris opening the first dental school in Bainbridge, Ohio. It was opened in 1828 and it is now a dental museum. The oldest known dentistry however is thought to date between 13,820 and 14,160 years and was an infected tooth cleaned with flint tools in Italy.
It’s been a long journey from there to here, but thankfully the procedures have changed drastically.

Innovation has always been strong in the field of dentistry, and there are always new developments. In the same way that Pierre Fauchard the father of modern dentistry, sought to always improve dentistry so do modern dentists. He adapted watchmakers, jewelers, and even barbers’ tools to his work; he also introduced fillings for cavities and identified the role of tartaric acid in tooth decay.
Now we have Solea Laser Dentistry, fantastic veneers, dental implants, and a whole host of other innovations. All of this was built on this very solid foundation of the first oral surgeon who attempted to improve the oral health of his patients.
