porcelain crownsPorcelain crowns (caps) are great for their natural look. A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.

Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain (tooth colored crown) are the most popular, because they resemble your natural teeth. They are highly durable and will last many years, but like most dental restorations, they may eventually need to be replaced. Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color or your teeth giving you a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile.

Reasons for crowns:

  • Broken or fractured teeth.
  • Cosmetic enhancement.
  • Decayed teeth.
  • Fractured fillings.
  • Large fillings.
  • Tooth has a root canal.

What does getting a crown involve?

Spread across two appointments, the procedure for getting a crown is fairly simple, but does take a little time. During the first appointment we are going to be taking the necessary dental molds to be able to accurately craft your crown. At this time we will also create and put in a temporary crown, while the new permanent crown is made.

we will numb your tooth and remove the decay and do any shaping necessary so that the temporary crown can be put in place. Following this, we verify that your bite is aligned properly.

For your second appointment we will be removing the temporary crown, cleaning the tooth, and putting in your permanent crown, and again we check to make sure that your bite if functioning perfectly. Once all this is done, we educate you on what must be done to keep your crown in the best condition.
