Veneers Procedure

Having a nice smile is a very important thing in a world where first impressions count and veneers can help with that. They are a very effective alternative to crowns, and have become increasingly popular since they were first invented by California dentist, Charles Pincus in 1928 for a film shoot. Back then they were just a temporary fix for the actors, who needed to have their smiles looking perfect for the silver screen.

In 1937 he developed acrylic veneers attached by dental adhesive, but they were still a long way from the high quality porcelain veneers that are most commonly used today. The Hollywood smile has traveled a long way since those early veneers and both the materials aesthetics and their longevity have greatly improved.

In 1982 research revealed porcelain could be etched with hydrofluoric acid and bonds could be strengthened with composite resins to allow porcelain veneers to be attached permanently. Today the veneers typically last 10-30 years.

While they are durable, they do need maintenance, and may need replacing. They are subject to the same problems as normal teeth, though porcelain is harder than natural tooth enamel. You can’t have the veneers installed and carry on with any of the bad habits that damaged your teeth in the first place.

We will educate you on how to care for your veneers, so that you can keep the great smile that you are going to have. Call us today for more information or to make an appointment.
